Effexor and Suicide?
Posted by C-Dad, Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 01:05 AM by C-Dad
My daughter's been diagnosed with depression. The doctor prescribed effexor and told me to watch for signs of suicidal thoughts. I'm really worried about this.
Am I putting my little girl at risk if she's taking effexor?

Definately watch your daughter close for any changes no matter how small they may seem. I had a Dr. diagnose me with anxiety and depression several years ago, and was put on multiple medications,( at different times), and finally Effexor. I am 47 and never really felt depressed until the meds started in on me. Once on effexor for a while I ended up one night with a .22 calibre pistol in my mouth, and a failed suicied attempt I will live with for the rest of my life. Please if you allow her to take this medication keep a very keen eye on her.

Yes... I don't know how old your daughter is, but my sister had just turned 25 and within three months of being put on the drug, she committed suicide. Her first dose was small, then increased in a month, then six days after the next increase is when she did it. To the docs credit, he/she told you to watch for signs of suicidal thoughts. We didn't realize that or were told to watch at all... maybe if we had known, we'll never know... Please be careful what's in your house and please don't leave her alone.
