libido: Sex drive or desire.
lithium: A chemical element and medication prescribed to treat manic depression, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. Lithium is not a reliable medication, as it is extremely unpredictable and can have severe side effects.
maladjusted: Describes a disturbed, unstable emotional state in which a person is unable to cope with the stress of daily life.
mania: An affective (mood-related) disorder marked by intensely elevated mood, extreme and nervous behavior, irritability, feelings of grandiosity, frenzy and, at times, violent behavior.
manic: Refers to anyone suffering from mania. A manic person is frenzied, irritable and distracted.
meditation: The practice of consciously bringing the body into a relaxed state to both calm and focus the mind to achieve some kind of enlightenment.
melatonin: A hormone produced by the pineal gland. Melatonin is related to a body's biological clock, circadian rhythms and sleeping patterns.
mood stabilizers: A type of psychotropic drug that is prescribed to treat bipolar disorder, depression and schizophrenia.
narcotic drug: An addictive drug that anesthetizes, alters mood or otherwise disrupts normal perception of reality.
neurological: Related to the nervous system, the body's system that controls sensation.
neuron: A nerve cell that represents the most basic type of cell that makes up the nervous system. Neurons receive and transmit nerve impulses.
neurotransmitter: A chemical substance that transmits messages from the brain to neurons throughout the body. orgasm: The intensely pleasurable sensation associated with the culmination of a sexual act. While a male orgasm is marked by semen ejaculation, the female ejaculation is characterized by vaginal contractions.
